Race to Learn is an exciting cross-curricular teaching resource that promotes group learning. The children make their own racing teams of 4 or 5, establish a team identity, and undertake educational activities that resemble functions of a real Formula One™ racing team.
What makes this teaching resource different is the real-life context for learning. While learning about key curriculum topics, they'll be engaged and excited by the real-life context of Formula One racing.
An element of competition between the student teams as they undertake the activities and present team findings back to the class is also particularly engaging. But despite this competitive element, the children also learn to provide objective feedback as a class to rival teams by way of peer assessment. And as a final activity the racing teams disassemble so that the whole class can work as one team to send their work to Williams F1 to appear on the Race to Learn website and take part in a national competition judged by members of the Williams F1 team.
On 2 March 2010, the National Race To Learn Competition was launched.
